Apple CarPlay activation depends on your factory head unit and its firmware. EVO iDrive 5 and EVO iDrive 6 are compatible. On firmware H to M the activation runs over USB but Full-Screen CarPlay is not yet available , for full-screen activation a firmware update is needed first. On firmware N and O the activation and Full-Screen run over USB. On firmware P to Y the activation and Full-Screen run over ENET cable. EntryNav2 WAY is always ENET cable, never USB, and the head unit firmware must be 07-20 or above with a physical purple Wi-Fi port present on the back of the unit. For NBT Evo Id5/6 Carplay Activation:
Go to your iDrive → Settings → System → Vehicle settings → Software version
The firmware letter (H through Y) appears on the version line.
H–M: USB activation, no Full-Screen yet (firmware update needed first)
N–O: USB activation with Full-Screen
P–Y: ENET cable activation with Full-Screen.
For EntryNav2 (EntryEvo) WAY:
Always done by ENET coding cable.
Firmware must be 07-20 or above.
A physical purple Wi-Fi port must be present on the back of the unit.
Without that port, CarPlay cannot be activated on that unit.
Which systems are not compatible for Carplay Activation?
EVO ID4, NBT NEXT, CIC Premium , Move, Motion and EntryNav Route. Activation for these systems MMI BOX hardware is required.

Q: Does BMW CarPlay activation require an FSC code?
A: CarPlay activation on BMW EVO ID5 and ID6 head units uses a
coding process rather than a traditional FSC map code. The
activation is applied via cable coding (ENET) or USB coding
depending on your firmware version — it permanently enables
CarPlay on your specific head unit. EntryNav2 units use the
same cable coding method. Neither activation type requires a
ConnectedDrive subscription after the initial coding is complete.
Q: Does my BMW have Apple CarPlay, and how do I check?
A: BMW models fitted with EVO ID5, EVO ID6, or EntryNav2 (WAY
navigation) head units can have CarPlay activated. To check
whether CarPlay is already active on your vehicle, go to your
iDrive home screen and look for a CarPlay or smartphone
integration option in the main menu. If it is not present,
your unit supports activation but has not yet had it enabled.
If your iDrive displays NEXT, PREMIUM, MOVE, MOTION, LIVE, or
JOY as the map type, CarPlay activation is not available for
your vehicle through standard coding.
Q: Is BMW Apple CarPlay a one-time activation or an ongoing subscription?
A: CarPlay activation on BMW EVO ID5/ID6 and EntryNav2 head units is a one-time coding process , there is no annual renewal or ConnectedDrive subscription required after activation is
complete. Once coded, CarPlay works with every iPhone connection
